Johnathan Roy Newton was born in Toronto in 1974 & from an early age showed an obvious talent for creating art. He went on to study at the Ontario College of Art and design and received his fine Arts Diploma in 2000. He majored in Classical Realism, with a strong emphasis on the figure. He apprenticed under Ray Simpson, a well-known portrait painter, in the Old Master Tradition. Newton won many awards in juried exhibitions even before he graduated from college and has gone on to display his work in numerous galleries including, Boulevard Fine Art. He has been commissioned to do portraits, landscapes, figurative work, narrative work, murals, Trompe l’oeil, and his work has been made into limited edition prints. Johnathan has donated paintings to charity auctions, churches, and the Orangeville Town Hall. Oil painting has been a passion for Johnathan most of his life, and Paul Pell, John Singer Sargent, and William Bougereau have had a great influence in his creativity. His lifelong achievement is to strive for ideal beauty through his paintings. Jonathan Newton is now clearly establishing himself as one of the leading realist painters of his generation & has a growing following throughout Canada & the United States.
