J.R. Newton
Image:
Jonathan Roy (J.R.) Newton was born in Toronto in 1974. From an early age, he showed an obvious talent for creating art. He studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design and graduating with a Fine Arts degree in 2000.  While majoring in Classical Realism with emphasis on the figure, Newton apprenticed under such artists as Ray Simpson, a well-known portrait painter in the Old Master Tradition.

After earning many awards in juried exhibitions, Newton has shown his work in galleries across North America including Boulevard Fine Art.  The artist has received numerous commissions for portraits, landscapes, figurative and narrative subjects, murals, and trompe l’oeil. His paintings have also been made into limited edition prints.

Among his creative influences, Newton counts such artists as Paul Pell, John Singer Sargent, and William Bougereau. He sets as his lifelong goal to strive for ideal beauty through his paintings. Newton is becoming established as one of the leading realist painters of his generation and has earned a growing following throughout Canada and the United States.
